New Moon in Capricorn

We are experiencing our first new moon of the 2026 calendar year.  I thought this would be a good opportunity to review what the New Moon represents and how we can use the cycles of the moon to help us create our best year yet.

A New Moon happens when the moon sits directly between Earth and the Sun.   Making it invisible and creating a dark night sky i.e. no light is reflected by the moon.  In other words, we cannot see it.   It is when we can best see the expansiveness of the night sky- the stars, planets and other celestial bodies.

In the astrological chart we can recognize a new moon because the symbols for the sun and moon are sitting right next to each other. Which appear as a circle with a dot in it for the sun and a crescent shaped moon.

The new moon phase is a time to set our intentions. While you likely did this at the New Year.  Take this moment to clarify and reaffirm your goals.   You might have originally been thinking about your New Year’s intentions during the Sagittarius New Moon.  Which is optimistic and forward thinking.  This new moon is asking for action and effort toward your goals.  Since you likely have already started working towards your goals take a moment to reflect on what you are doing, is it working for you? Or do you need to change your approach?

The moon represents emotions, subjective experiences, mothers, and dogs. It is our habits. What we need to feel comfortable and secure.
