Chiron
The Wounded Healer
Chiron in our birth charts represents what we can heal in others but have difficulty healing in ourselves. But what does this mean? Are we meant to just throw in the towel and give up? I would argue that it isn’t that we can’t heal our Chiron wound, but that we must shift our perspective of what that healing looks like.
First a little background-
Chiron takes approximately 50 years to orbit through the entire Zodiac. However, the time spent in each sign varies. Some he rushes through in just a couple of years while others he spends more time due to his erratic orbit. Chiron recently moved into the sign of Taurus on June 19th, 2026. He will spend the next few months in Taurus allowing us a glimpse at upcoming themes that we might see during his transit here. In September he will move back into Aries for a few months allowing us to review our Chiron in Aries lessons until April 2027. Chiron will then officially make his move into Taurus full time. Where he will stay until 2034. Taking the experiences from fiery, independent Aries into grounded, stable, Taurus.
Those born around May of 1976 to April of 1984 will have Chiron in Taurus in their natal chart. and will experience their Chiron return. But remember just because people born around the same time have their Chiron in the same sign does not mean that the wounding shows up exactly the same. If you are born in 1976/1977 or 1983/1984 it is a good idea to look at your astrological chart to determine where Chiron is located. Because of his orbit as he travels in and out of signs those born in those years may have their Chiron in Aries or Gemini.
But who is Chiron and what is his story?
This is a very brief overview of Chiron’s Myth. Chiron was fathered by Kronos/Saturn (name varies depending on origin) and a nymph Philyra. Kronos/Saturn was eating his children whom he fathered through his wife Rhea because he did not want his status to be challenged. Knowing that Saturn was interested in her and that he was crazy, Philyra changed herself into a horse to protect herself from his advances. However, unfortunately Kronos/Saturn caught on to the scheme, turned himself into a horse and mated her anyways which resulted in Chiron. Because his parents were in horse form during his conception Chiron was born a Centaur. Philyra horrified by this, saw Chiron as being a monster and asked to be turned into anything so that she did not have deal with the embarrassment of being the mother of a “monster”. Upon her request the Gods turned her into a tree.
Abandoned Chiron was discovered by a shepherd and taken to Apollo who raised him. Apollo, son of Jupiter/Zeus, who is one of Kronos/Saturn’s children. Apollo- The Sun God, God of music, prophecy, poetry, medicine. Giving Chiron opportunity to learn these various teachings away from the limiting world of his parents
In this we can see Chiron’s first wound. An abandonment and rejection from his mother. While the story is obviously filled with horrible events we also see how those events led to Chiron becoming the wise healer who was sought after by royalty to teach their sons. Without the rejection of his mother Chiron would not have been raised by Apollo- the god of the Sun, music, prophecy, poetry and medicine. Chiron is a direct descendant of Kronos/Saturn- limitations, restrictions, boundaries. Yet he is raised by Jupiter/Zeus’ son Apollo. Jupiter/Zeus is Chiron’s half-brother, also one of Saturn’s offsprings, but ultimately with the help of his mother, Jupiter/Zeus was able to free his siblings that had been eaten by Saturn/Kronos. While Jupiter/Zeus comes from Saturn’s line he breaks free from the limitations that are no longer needed or serving purpose. When we look at Jupiter in astrology it is the planet of expansion, luck, faith.
Chiron’s wounding-
Chiron is wounded and in agonizing pain but because he is a god, he does not die. In my research there were a few accounts of how this injury occurred. Ultimately, it does not matter, just that it did and he lacks the ability to heal himself. Instead, he suffers, desperate to be healed. In his search for the cure Chiron increases his knowledge and his ability to heal others but never gains the ability to heal himself. Eventually Chiron becomes mortal by giving up his immortality to free Prometheus. A whole other story that I am not going to get into now. Chiron ultimately is “healed” in the sense that he is no longer dealing with the pain.
You may be thinking great story, but what does this have to do with me? How does old mythology correlate with my life? When we look at the mythology, we must consider what is happening in the story and how that relates to us. When considering Chiron’s story there is a theme around acceptance and eventual releasing who he is. Chiron does not ultimately heal and return to himself. He transforms who he is. Chiron’s is a life of adjustments. When looked at from the outside one can see all the good that became him. However, Chiron himself had to deal with large woundings to experience these blessings. It is important that we don’t just count our blessings but are able to look at and understand our woundings as well. To do the shadow work. Chiron throughout his life learns, teaches, heals and is able to use these lessons to help others.
Now let’s bring this back to Astrology. When considering Chiron or any other point in the astrological chart there are multiple factors to consider how we as individuals are impacted. I specifically want to focus on the Chiron in Aries that we are finishing up and Chiron in Taurus that we moving into.
When Chiron moved through Aries we dealt with woundings around, aggression, individuality and taking action, around our right to exist, or feel that we are more than just an extension of someone else. Our own sovereign being. Or becoming overly self-sufficient. Being afraid to reach out, ask for help. With Chiron in Aries, the core struggle is often a deep-seated feeling of, "Do I even have a right to be here as I am?" People with this placement might overcompensate by trying to be a warrior who can handle absolutely everything without a single hand from anyone else. They might have a quickness to anger or a total suppression of it, because standing up for themselves feels unsafe or triggers that original wound of rejection. It’s a constant battle between wanting to assert your own independence and being terrified that doing so will leave you completely cut off. We saw this Chiron in Aries energy play out when COVID happened. Aries is all about the individual and our own independence, and suddenly we were forced into this position where we had to look at how our individual actions were impacting everyone else. Isolating and being careful was important, and it really forced us to be aware of the collective and how we as individuals affect the whole picture. It showed us the wound of being forced into hyper-independence, but the lesson was that we have to balance our own sovereign self with the reality of how we affect the people around us.
If you have Chiron in Aries in your birth chart is there an area of life that you find yourself overcompensating? Are you overly self-sufficient? Or feel that you have to prove your right to be in the room?
While Chiron in Aries has to do with individuality Chiron in Taurus has to do with wounding around stability and value. With Chiron in Taurus, the wounding shifts down into our foundational sense of security, the physical body, and material comfort. This placement can show up as a deep fear of scarcity, where no matter how much money, food, or material possessions you acquire, it never feels like "enough" to make you feel truly safe. There can also be a major struggle with self-worth, where you constantly tie your value to what you own, what you can physically provide, or how stable you appear to the outside world. It can make a person completely disconnect from their physical body or overindulge to find comfort, because the physical world itself feels unreliable. The lesson here is about finding an internal sense of peace and value that cannot be shaken by external lack.
With Chiron in Taurus as a collective we are likely going to see things come up in relation to the Earth, it’s resources, and sustainability. We are already seeing this with AI and the impact it is having on the environment. Taurus rules the earth and physical security- food, supply chains and the earth itself. This transit is going to expose the ways we harm our resources for the sake of fast progress. It’s a collective lesson looking at the cost of convenience what we are actually costing ourselves and finding a grounded way to get back to a respectful relationship with nature.
If you have Chiron in Taurus in your natal chart, do you struggle to feel safe and secure in your own skin? Do you find yourself tying your worth to your material stability and what you can produce?
