Using the optimistic, exploration energy of Sagittarius in your own chart

The sun has made its move into the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of expansion, optimism, philosophy and travel.  Let’s take a look at the deeper meaning behind this sign, its purpose, and impact.  We are all impacted by every sign in our chart.  How depends on the personal make-up of our own unique charts. 

Sagittarius season occurs from about the 21st of November to the 21st of December and can fluctuate a day or so depending on the year. 

Who is Sagittarius?

Sagittarius is a masculine, mutable, fire sign.  Ruled by Jupiter and represented by the Centaur pointing his arrow outward.  But what does this all mean?

First the Centaur- A half man half horse creature standing with his bow and arrow drawn and pointed towards its intended target.  When we consider the various aspects of this image, we think of the horse’s body representing the need for freedom, a wildness, untamed energy, and exploration.  Sagittarius desires freedom to roam and explore whether in actual movement and travel or through mental exploration, philosophy, spirituality, and higher learning. The shadow of this is the need to be in constant movement and looking forward making it difficult to sit still and enjoy the moment.  Having a tendency to bolt when feeling bored or restricted.

The upper half of the image is represented by the torso and head of a man.  Seeking to take this animal energy and need for freedom and apply an intellectual curiosity.  His arrow is always pointed upwards.  Representing the quest for knowledge, and expansion.  Focusing on points beyond the horizon- long distance travel, higher education, philosophy and spirituality.  The shadow of this is the potential of being overly blunt and preachy.

Second the meaning of Masculine vs Feminine in the signs.  This is different than gender masculine and feminine but is referring to the movement of energy.  As a masculine sign Sagittarius energy is moving outwards.  In Sagittarius this shows up as exploration being active and action oriented.  Actively seeking knowledge and exploring.  However, while signs are inherently masculine or feminine they must also understand how to incorporate the opposite energy to make it work.  Sagittarius’s forward thinking, movement, travel and expansion make it a masculine sign but none of that does it any good if it does not know who to receive and be receptive to the knowledge it seeks through the feminine energy. 

Third, a mutable sign shows that Sagittarius is not charging its way into new territories and ideas but is flexible, and open to change.  It takes its wisdom and adapts. Preparing and getting ready for the next thing.
